Our Policy

Data that you give to the University of Chichester (including data that we produce or collect about you) will be managed by us in accordance with the Data Protection Act (‘the Act’) and subject to our Data Protection Policy, Procedures and Guidelines.

Your data will only be used for purposes directly related to the interests of the University and/or its alumni and supporters. Your data will only be accessible to our staff, the staff of the Students’ Union and selected external agents acting on behalf of the University, in each case subject to strict contractual requirements of confidentiality.

Your data and the Development Office

In accordance with University policy, the Development Office will may use your data for the following purposes:

  • the distribution of University publications and updates;
  • notification of events and programmes;
  • communications giving relevant University news;
  • the promotion of University benefits and services;
  • to support University fundraising operations;
  • to assist us in developing our Alumni and Supporter Database, for example by comparing the information we hold about you to publically-available information such as that on social media sites or public registers;
  • the distribution of information regarding alumni and supporter groups;
  • information about University courses and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities;
  • the promotion of career path information and invitations to support current students with careers advice;
  • requests to support the University with written or video contributions to printed and online materials, such as Showcase orthe University prospectus;
  • requests to complete relevant surveys;
  • research and audit purposes administrative units or academic departments;
  • any other use deemed to sit within our data protection statement.

From time to time, we may wish to share your information with other alumni and supporters to facilitate the establishment and management of networking groups. We will always either seek permission to do this on a person-by-person basis or invite people to network via alumni.chi.ac.uk. No data will be shared with fellow alumni and supporters without your prior and specific permission.

The Development Office may communicate with you in person, by ‘phone, email, post or by social media, except where you have asked us not to.

If:

  • you do not want to be contacted in a specific way;
  • you would like to change or update any information that the University of Chichester Alumni and Supporter Database holds about you; or
  • you do not want the Development Office to use your personal details for one or more of the purposes set out above
