The Foundation was created in memory of Chichester student, Steven Bernard, who passed away in 2005 following a tragic car accident, which claimed the lives of two other University colleagues.

Steve will be fondly remembered for his love of sport and in particular, football, where he played for The Grange at Bournemouth Sports Club and thrived as a youngster. At 16 Steve signed for Christchurch FC and played some of his best football at Hum Bridge which, combined with his talent, allowed him to flourish.

In honour of Steven’s incredible passion for sport, the Foundation supports a range of sporting projects across Bournemouth, Dorset and the South Coast. Since its formation in 2006, the Foundation has raised more than £280,000 and supported more than 200 projects covering more than 30 sports and 4 continents.

The foundation, run entirely by volunteers, has offered guidance, financial support and predominantly equipment to a range of good causes ranging from supporting the AFC Bournemouth Ability Counts Team to potential Olympic athletes of the future; from providing new kit to local boxing clubs to funding outreach projects in Thailand, Uganda and Kenya.
