Make a Gift to the Women’s Sport Leadership Academy (WSLA)

WSLA 2018 graduates, facilitators and support staff

The Women’s Sport Leadership Academy (WSLA) is a programme of the Anita White Foundation (AWF) at the University of Chichester, developed and delivered by the AWF and Females Achieving Brilliance (FAB). Our mission is to provide unique development opportunities for women leaders around the world to step up, take the lead and make an impact. It comprises a residential programme which has been held annually at the University since 2014, facilitator training and support, graduate support, networking and mentoring, and research. Bespoke courses using the WSLA brand and concept have also been delivered under licence in New Zealand and Botswana.

Since the inaugural WSLA in June 2014, 228 women from 41 countries have gathered for a week-long residential programme of leadership development at the Bognor Regis Campus of the University. The participants occupy middle to senior management or board positions within national and international sport federations, Olympic and Paralympic Committees, Ministries and National Councils of Sport, universities, sport for development and sport consultancy organisations.

However, many of the women who apply to WSLA receive no institutional financial support for their participation or travel costs. The AWF has contributed to scholarships and travel grants for women from Argentina, Bangladesh, Botswana, Burundi, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Laos, Malawi, Nepal, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, St Lucia, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Thailand, Uganda and Zimbabwe to participate in WSLA.

The AWF has also contributed to funding the return of five graduates as International Facilitators to develop their practice and contribute to hosting programmes in their own countries. Caroline (Zimbabwe) and Rachel (Kenya) returned in 2016, Nisha (South Africa) and Tsosi (Botswana) returned in 2017, and Tikwiza (Zambia) returned in 2018.

Moreover, the AWF has launched Catalyst Grants to enable graduates of WSLA to advance the women and sport movement in their countries/regions/organisations. Four projects (Australia, Bangladesh, Kenya and the UK) have received support thus far.

Every penny you contribute, plus an additional 25% of the value of your gift if you are a UK tax payer, will be put to good and practical use.
